Tristan Buitendag

Owner and Head Guide

Born and raised in East London, Tristan discovered his passion for fishing at the age of four. Growing up in a family of dedicated anglers, he inherited generations of knowledge and skill, shaping him into the accomplished fisherman he is today.

Over the years, Tristan has developed a versatile skill set through both competitive and social fishing across South Africa. His active involvement in the competitive circuit has honed his ability to perform under pressure, refine techniques, and minimize mistakes when it matters most.

Equally committed to conservation, Tristan has participated in marine tagging projects and continues to tag fish in his personal time, contributing to the preservation and understanding of local fisheries. He values the time spent at the water’s edge with friends and family, and now channels that passion into helping fellow anglers pursue their dream catches while sharing knowledge about the ocean and its diverse species.

With a blend of competitive success and lifelong experience, Tristan stands out as both a guide and mentor, inspiring anglers of all levels to connect with the ocean, refine their skills, and embrace the adventure of fishing.

Anees Mahomed

Anees Mahomed

Owner and Guide

Anees’s journey began with freshwater angling, but it was the ocean that truly captured his heart. Raised in a family of fishermen, he absorbed invaluable skills from his uncles and late grandfather, later sharpening them along the Port Elizabeth coastline.

His love for the sea extends beyond fishing — surfing and spearfishing gave him a deeper respect for the ocean’s power and beauty. During his gap years as a surf instructor, Anees discovered a passion for teaching and the joy of sharing the ocean with others.

Now based in Cape Town, Anees blends technical expertise with a conservation-focused approach, ensuring every trip balances sport with sustainability.

Currently pursuing a BCom in Management and Finance at the University of the Western Cape, he continues to guide and inspire others, combining his academic pursuits with his lifelong dedication to the water.

Nick’s fishing journey began alongside his father, casting for bass and spending quality time by the water. What started as a pastime quickly grew into a passion, with Nick developing a particular interest in non-edible fishing, targeting large sharks and rays.

His connection to the ocean extends beyond fishing. Nick earned his skipper’s certification and became a Class 2 commercial diver, experiences that deepened his respect for the sea and reinforced his lifelong commitment to conservation.

Since beginning his competitive fishing career in 2025, Nick has proven himself across diverse waters, adapting his techniques to deliver results time and again.

His determination is unmatched — where there’s a fish, Nick will find it.

Jean-Luc

Jean-Luc

Head Guide

From childhood days spent at the beach or local farm dams, Jean-Luc has always been drawn to the water. With fishing deeply rooted in his family, he caught the “bug” early and began his journey hand-lining for klipvis and learning from local fishermen.

These early experiences shaped him into a skilled all-round angler.

Jean-Luc’s talent quickly stood out. He represented West Coast Rock and Surf at senior level, as well as the South African Navy and SANDF, earning numerous Top 3 placings. He also competed for Western Province in freshwater angling, giving him a unique set of skills and versatility developed from fishing across South Africa’s diverse waters.

Passionate about sharing his knowledge, Jean-Luc is always eager to guide and teach others. He is equally committed to conservation, actively participating in marine tagging programs to help improve understanding and preservation of marine life.

Nicholas Clarke

Guide

Nicholas’s passion for the ocean was shaped along South Africa’s Wild Coast, where countless hours on the shoreline taught him the fundamentals of tides, structure, and fish behaviour. Over the years he has developed a versatile skill set across deep sea, river, and rock-and-surf fishing, adapting seamlessly to different environments and techniques. His dedication to the sport has seen him proudly represent both the South African Deep Sea Angling Association and the Border Deep Sea Angling Association, gaining valuable competitive experience and fishing alongside some of the country’s most accomplished anglers.

Beyond competition, Nicholas values the camaraderie and community that fishing fosters. He is passionate about sharing knowledge, exploring new techniques, and promoting responsible practices that safeguard the waters for future generations.
