Dusky Sharks, Bronze Whaler, Ragged Tooth Shark, Spotted Gully Shark, Kob, Black Mussel Cracker, White Mussel Cracker, Black tail, Zebra Fish (Wildeperd).
1 Nov - 1 Dec: In Summer there is an abundance of Ragged Tooth sharks, providing a good tussle for tourists and local fishermen. This area, situated on the Border Coast, is extremely versatile, producing both monster sharks and prized edible fish.
1 Dec - 1 Feb: The most productive time with massive Ragged Tooth sharks coming out in numbers. This small window provides anglers the chance to target both non-edibles and edibles using lures/artificials or bait.
1 Feb - 1 Apr: As the water temperature decreases, summer fish move on to warmer waters. During this time anglers capitalize on edible fishing. In April we see the first signs of Bronze Whaler Sharks following the annual sardine run.
1 Apr - 1 Sep: Peak Bronze Whaler season. The annual sardine run attracts predators like Bronze Whaler Shark, Dusky (Grey) Shark, and Spotted Gully Shark, which capitalize on the abundance of bait fish.
The area East London provides some of the most productive reef fishing in the Eastern Cape with both bait and lures/artificials. Some of the locals' preferred method of catching Kob and Garrick is on paddle tail (Dropshot) which proves rather successful.
This area is rather unique as it is one of the very few places left where Black Mussel Crackers (Poensies) can still be caught by using paddletail as well as the fact that Bronze Whalers can be targeted in the middle of winter due to the annual sardine run that makes its way past this coastline.
The surrounding areas such as Kei Mouth, Morgan’s Bay, Cintsa (East and West), Cefani and many more prove that this stretch of coastline is one of the most versatile coastlines in South Africa offering unforgettable moments and prized catches.
